arise: (final fantasy ♥ kitten is angry)
ughhhh having such trouble with this assignment at uni. I missed the first two weeks due to my enrolment being messed up (ie, not my fault), and by the time I got there, there was a major (25%) assignment due in two weeks. (Now next Wednesday.) I've basically gotten onto it as soon as I can, but it's ridiculous. There's all of a paragraph in the subject guide discussing what is required, there's another whole thing required that isn't in the subject guide and was only mentioned in the lectures, nowhere is there any information about how anything should be formatted, whether references should be used... it's very unclear about exactly what information should be presented, let alone how that information is laid out.

I should quickly disclaim at this point - the assignment isn't an essay or anything that would have a standard format, it's an irregular report being used as a practice assignment for a more traditional assessment report later on. It's not a case of the format not being elaborated on because everyone should already know what the format is.

All that isn't what pisses me off though. What pisses me off is that earlier last week, realising that I had no fucking idea what was going on, I emailed the lecturer about it, explaining that I'd missed the first two weeks, I was having a lot of trouble understanding what the assignment was actually asking us to do, I couldn't get the books as they're all unavailable at the library (whole other clusterfuck). His response? Don't bother reading the books, the handout should explain everything, just reference back to the books afterwards. Even aside from the incredibly dismissive tone that made it seem like I was a moron for asking about content that I'd missed through no fault of my own, and the fact that I wanted to read the books because, you know, you should probably read source material you're referencing in an academic context, there's the matter of the handout.

Ah, the magical one-page handout that is substitute for an assignment brief, marking grid, and basically any guidance. I won't go into the issues with it, except to address the claim that it should explain everything. Spoilers: IT DOESN'T.

argh so fucking stressed right now :(
